IV International Music & Theatre Festival “Golden keys” will be held 24 - 26 april 2009 in Petrozavodsk. The topic of the festival will be “Fairytale from the North”.

Objectives of the festival:
 
1.      To increase children’s and youth’ interest in culture, traditions history of Karelia, Northern Europe, sister towns of Petrozavodsk
2.      To sum up experience in the field of children music and theatre creation, problems and solutions
3.      To establish and develop friendship contacts and relations
 
Idea of the festival:
Music theatre, especially music fairytale is a democratic genre, interesting and widespread. Fairytale teaches kindness, makes familiar with traditions, everyday life, culture of a nation, peculiarities of a language.    
Music Theatre is a synthesis of arts (music, painting, dancing) plays a huge role in formation of a personality. Music is a bright, emotional language which is easily understood by adults and children of all nations around the world.
            Music Theatre contributes to development of creative capacities of children and teenagers.
 
            “Due to Arts having the gift of kind understanding of the world, surrounding people, past and future one makes friends easier and one is on good terms with other people, cultures, nations” (D. Likhachev).
 
Terms of the festival
Festival will be held in 2 stages:
I stage - competition of applications (information on groups, photos). The deadline for application is 1 December 2008, videocassettes is 1 March 2009.
II stage -  24 - 26 april 2009 - festival.
 
Children and Youth groups from children music schools, schools of arts, studios, Palace of Creation, Centers of Culture from Karelia, Russia, Europe are invited to take part in the festival. Groups of children with limited possibilities and orphans are invited to participate too.
Performance should not exceed 40 minutes.
Groups should not exceed 20 people, age up to 25.
 
 
 
Conditions of the festival:
1. Group should present a music performance in different languages on a fairy plot or folk motifs of Northern Europe or of countries of sister relationship of Petrozavodsk.
2. Fee is 30 euro by person. Travel expenses, accommodation, per diems are on personnel charge.
3. Nominations:
-  best presentation of ethnic peculiarities, use of folk material, ethnic colors, language;
- best director’s work ;
- best actor;
- best use of all arts (music, dance, vocal);
- best music performance;
- best interpretation of a fairytale character
 
 
Jury of the festival: directors, actors, teachers from training institutions of Petrozavodsk.

      1.   name of the performance, author, language.
       2.  group characteristic:
            à) name of the director;
b) number and list of participants;
c) date of group’s establishment;
d) Group’s brief history ;
e) Photos.

                                                                   History of the festival:
 
I International Music & Theatre Festival “Golden keys” was held in May 2000 in Petrozavodsk. The topic of the festival was “Scandinavian fairytale”. 19 groups (350 young artists) from Petrozavodsk, Karelia, Saint-Petersburg, Copenhagen (Denmark) presented Scandinavian music fairytale in Russian, Karelian, Finnish, German, English, Dutch, and Norwegian. Within the framework of the festival master classes, meetings with a fairytales storyteller from Denmark and leading artists from music theatres were held. The project was supported by the Barents Secretariat and Nordic Council of Ministers.    
II International Music & Theatre Festival “Golden keys” was held in March 2004 in Petrozavodsk and Kondopoga. It was started in Norway and Finland. The topic of the festival was “Earth planet is our common house”. 23 groups (350 young artists) from Petrozavodsk, Karelia, Saint-Petersburg, and Kostroma took part in the festival. There were 2 groups of children with limited possibilities. Participants presented music fairytales in Russian, Karelian, Finnish, German, English, and Norwegian. Within the framework of the festival the Competition of drawings and pictures, poetries and compositions was held for the first time. Performance organized by skaters “Ice Ball” and exhibition “Northern decorations” became a very bright event of the festival.
            III International Music & Theatre Festival “Golden keys” was held in May 2006 in Petrozavodsk. The topic of the festival was “Old fairytale of the new century”.   18 children and youth groups (265 participants) from Andoya (Norway), Joensuu (Finland), Saint-Petersburg, Sosnovyj bor (Leningradskaya oblast), Karelia and Petrozavodsk produced their music performances based on Danish, Swedish, English, Karelian and Russian famous fairytales in different languages. Performances were produced at the National Theatre of the Republic of Karelia, State Philharmonic, Karelian College of Culture and Children School of Arts. During the festival there was International Press Center working. The festival was greeted by warm and encouraging letters from Royal palaces of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Great Britain, and Netherlands. The competitions of drawings on fairytale’s topic and literature competition were successfully carried out.
